Goodbye
This semester has flown bye. This class has helped me become a better student and hopefully will make me a better teacher when the time comes. I got to meet some great people because of this class. They helped me tremendously to make it through this class. We had to work together at times and helped each other stay focused. I hope everyone has a great summer, and you continue to reach all the goals that you set to accomplish. Goodbye for now!

Final Blog Post
1. I learned a lot in this class. At times, it was a little overwhelming, but I think I benefited from taking this class. I believe that I will be a much better teacher to my future students because of this class. I will be able to be diverse in my classroom as well. Before this class I would not have been able to use Google Earth or anything in Google besides emailing. When I become a teacher I will be able to use Google, Google Earth, Google Presentation, Twitter, how to make a Podcast, how to create a Blog, and using blogs as a learning tool.
2.I think I learned everything that I needed to in this class to help me be Technology Literate as a Teacher.
3.I think that everything that I learned in this class was important and hopefully will be able to use them in my classroom, when I become a teacher.
4.What excited me most was the Comments 4 Kids. I always looked forward to what they were doing to their blogs and in their classrooms. They are doing way more advanced things in their classes than I ever did. I think it's awesome how their teachers challenge them.
5.The Google Earth Project intellectually challenging. I know it probably shouldn't be, but to me it was. It was very difficult in figuring out how to get it to work on my blog, but after doing it over and over I got the link to work. I was very proud because I didn't give up. I think its important for everyone not to ever give up.
6.I don't think there was a time in this class that I got bored because we were always learning something new every week.
7.I think Dr. Strange need to keep the class the way it is. It was challenging but anyone that tries can accomplish the projects that are assigned in this class.
8.I think I am much more technological literate because of this class. I don't think I'm great at it but I think I'm at least average when it comes to technology.

I started out mainly using Classroom 2.0 as my PLN, but I have decided to expand it as the semester has gone on. I now use Facebook, Myspace, and Twitter as my PLN. I think the more sources you have the better off you are. I think it's important to get advice from a wide range of people because not everyone will have the same idea. During your the first year as a teacher, it will be important to seek advice from teachers who have more experience than you in order to make you first year a success.

A 7th Grader's Personal Learning Environment (or PLN)
I thought this was a great video. She has done an excellent job organizing her PLE. She is ahead of where she needs to be as a student. I hope she continues to be as organized in everything she does. I know when I was that age I was no way near that organized. Shes worked very hard on it and is a good example for her classmates to follow.
Two Questions That Can Change Your Life
I thought this was a great video. It really made me think. The video asked to questions. The first question was What is your sentence?, and the second question was Was I better today than yesterday? I think some people won't find their sentence until way later in life, or after they have passed on. THe second question reminded me about when I played football in high school. Our coach use to tell us to try to get better today than you were yesterday. I think that is an important goal. You should always strive to improve yourself as a person, student, parent, or employee.

Survey
My survey wasn't about on certain subject, it was about general things. The survey was only 10 questions. I asked where people were from and the person that lived the farthest was from Alaska, but most were from Alabama. The question I asked about Spring Break was very interesting most said they were going to the beach, but the most interesting was that someone was going to Guatemala for a mission trip. I asked where people were planning to live once they graduate, and very few wanted to stay in the Mobile area. I asked what made people want to attend the University of South Alabama, and most said they chose South Alabama was because it was close to home. I asked if anyone play sports at South Alabama and everyone said no. Most people's favorite place to shop was Old Navy. The Auburn Tigers and Alabama Crimson Tide were most people's favorite college football teams. Finally, most people's favorite hobby was to go to the movies.

I think one thing that I learned from taking this class is that it will be important to use your PLN when you become a teacher. I believe as a first year teacher it will be very important to get all the help you can to make your first year a success. Even using Facebook as a PLN has helped me this semester. I have several friends that are teachers now, and I message them all the time for advice or help, and it has helped me tremendously. Every teacher should use their PLN as much as possible. I'm not saying my way is the best but it does help. I think it's important to branch out and find other sources as your PLN as well because everyone has a different opinion. I use Twitter and Classroom 2.0 as a PLN as well.

Commetns 4 Teachers Weeks 13 & 14

Operation Mulligan
For weeks 13 and 14 I have to read Mrs. Kelly Hines' Blog. The post I commented on this week was about giving her class a Mulligan. She felt like her class could do better, so she told them to turn in all their supplies and the next day would start a new year.
I thought this was a very interesting post. I thought it took a lot of guts to do something like this. She wanted her students to strive to make better grades, and let them know that making decent grades wasn't good enough. I think more teachers should do things similar to this. I think Mrs. Hines is a good example for young and future teachers to follow.Keeping Kids First

The post on Mrs. Hines' blog was about how teachers need to get their head out of the sand and stick their neck out in order to be a leader. She's feels that everyone possesses the power of influence. I think its important for teachers to be leaders to their students and to their fellow teachers. Some people lead by example and aren't very outspoken, but others lead by being vocal. I think teachers can be leaders by being vocal as well. They may not need to yell but they could take a chance and go to a fellow teacher that they think might need some guidance.

Skype
Before this semester, I had only used Skype only a few times. I had never really thought there was much use for it, but then I realized it was easy to use and very helpful. I use it to talk to several of my friends. One of my friends works in Iraq, and we usually talk once a week on there. I use it to talk to my cousin as well. He helps me with any questions I have with my schoolwork. When I become a teacher, I think Skype can be a very easy way for parents to keep in touch with me. It will be very useful for parents that work long hours or are stay at home parents.

Wyatt made an animation about his interests and his life. He drew a picture of his house and school. I thought he did a great job with the animation. When I was that age, I would have never been able to do something like that. He did a great job with the drawings. They were in great detail. Wyatt is a smart person.

Dear Kaia
I enjoyed reading this blog. It was about a little girl named Kaia and her dad. He takes her outside to explore. She also takes pictures while she's outside. I thought she did a great job taking the pictures. She seems to have a bright future in photography. I hope she will continue her interest in photography.I thought the video the class made was well done. I think its a good way to help teachers learn new technology.

After reading this two blogs and video, I've come to realize that it's important to teach children at an early age on how to use technology. I think it will help his daughter later in life especially throughout her college career, and possibly help her on whatever career she chooses. I had to comment on Mrs. Glaze's class this week for comments for kids. The class made a video describing an animal. Each student describes what the animal looks like, and they show a picture of the part of the animal the student has described. At the end of the video, each student's picture of the animal is shown, and they show you the picture of the animal at the end.I thought this was a very creative way to help the students learn. This is picture that was on Ms. Bayda's Blog I liked.An Open Letter to Educators
I thought this was a good post and video as well. I thought Ms.Bayda made several good points about being in class and being bored. There are some teachers that teach the old fashion way and don't try change thing up to help keep their students interested. I've found myself in similar situations in past classes that I've taken. When I become a teacher I hope to be able to keep up with new technology to help keep my students interested.
I found the video to be very interesting. I thought he made some very good points. He was very passionate in the video. I think he's right when education at Universities needs to change, but I think you will always have to take the basic classes. I think whatever major you are studying, that should be the classes you need to take. A good example of this would be if your major was History. Why would you need to take Biology. I don't see how that would help you with your career. I think universities will always be needed in order to obtain a college degree.

This post is about a program called Prezi. It's a way to learn digitally. The students inserted pictures and wrote stories by using Prezi. I thought the students did an excellent job on the stories they created. Before reading this blog, I had never even heard of Prezi. Ms. Deyenberg has been going to the Dominican Republic to help the teachers how to use new technology. She stays there for 10 days. The teachers learn how to use different programs and how to use them in the classroom. She also teaches them how to blog and how to use the blog into the classroom.I think it's awesome that she gets the opportunity to help teachers from another country to learn new technology. I would love for an opportunity like that.

Comments 4 Kids Week 10
I had to comment on Mrs.Goerend's class Blog. The post that I commented on was called All Kids Should Play Sports. It was written by Zebin K.I thought he made some greats points about there are too many kids being obese and committing crimes, but I don't think every kid is cut out for sports. I do believe there are other activities kids can do to occupy their time. Playing in the band, getting an after school job, or tutoring someone would be good examples of thing kids could do.

ALEX
ALEX stands for the Alabama Learning Exchange. It's a useful website for teachers. It gives you the courses of study available from grades K-12. The website gives you lessons plans for each subject that is being taught.The website also gives web links for teachers, administrators, and for students as well. There are also podcast available for you and is broken down into certain subjects.
I think the ALEX website is a great resource tool for all teachers and could be useful for students. I think it will be especially useful for a beginning teacher. It will help you learn how to be a better teacher more easily. I think when I become a teacher, I will use this website. I think it will make my first year as a teacher much easier.

ACCESS stands for Alabama Connecting Classrooms, Educators, and Students Statewide. ACCESS is a website for distance learning. It's available for all public high school students. The University of Alabama and Troy University are support centers for ACCESS. The website gives you a list of upcoming announcements on the right side of the page. The website tells you what the program is about, and it tells you what courses are available that you can take.
I think the ACCESS program is a great idea. I didn't even know it existed. I wish my school was involved in it. I think it would have been very beneficial for myself and my classmates. I'm not sure that the school where I'm from even know about ACCESS. I think they should be aware of this website. Mrs. Yollis' Classroom Blog
For this week, I had to comment on Mrs. Yollis' Class Blog. The post on the blog i commented on was about Math. There was a link available for her student to log in and play games about Math with other students from another country. I thought that was an excellent idea. It was a fun way for the students to learn math and to develop social skills with other people. I hope as a teacher I can find creative ways like this for my students to learn more easily.

Commments 4 Kids Week 8
I had to comment on Raplh's blog. His post was about the moon. I thought he gave an excellent description of the moon. I agreed with him about how beautiful it is. I think its most beautiful when it's full.
My Pride and Joy
My son was born at 5:12p.m. on March 8, 2010. He weighted 5lbs 15oz and was 18in long. He was a surprise and a few weeks early as well. We named him Noah Dustin Jerkins. Noah and my girlfriend are doing great!

Randy Pausch’s Last Lecture
I thought this was a great video. Mr. Pausch's attitude is outstanding. I don't know if I would have that great of an attitude if I had ten tumors inside me and was on the verge of dying. I thought it was awesome that he didn't stop planning for the future. He put his wife and kids first by buying a new home for them. If I'm ever in a situation like that I hope I will be able to do something similar like that.
I would have loved for Mr. Pausch as my professor. He seemed like he loved his job and was very good at it. I hope I can be a good teacher like that and be a good influence on my students like he did. He never lost sight of his dreams and found ways to achieve them before he died. I thought it was awesome how he helped his students, and the fact that they felt comfortable to come to him for help.
I found it interesting how his students finished his assignments ahead of time. and he had to call his mentor for advice because he didn't know what to do. It made me realize that it's ok to ask for advice or help. I think for his students to finish their work ahead of time says a lot about him as a teacher. I do think it was important for him to push his students to do more and work harder to make the project better. It will make them want to do a better job in everything they do not just in school.

Richard Miller: This Is How We Dream Parts 1 and 2
I agree with Dr. Miller when he was saying that we write with our laptops more than we do with our pens. In my classes that I'm taking, I have seen more and more laptops being used by students. It makes it much easier because you don't have to keep up with the notebook, or worry about your notes being ruined because you can save it on your computer.
Technology had made it easier for teachers to find new material and new tools to help students learn and keep them interested. If you look hard enough on the internet, you can find tons of useful material that you can use in your classroom. I have recently done some research into iTunes U and it is a great resource to use as a student and as a teacher. You can find almost anything on there that you would need. I think he's right when there is a need to share information, and iTunes U is a great place to do that.
I think Dr. Miller has a good idea about making a buildings at colleges and universities totally green, but I think it would be very expensive at the same time. I know some colleges could afford to do it, but not all of them. If it was done, I don't know if all students could afford to buy computers. i think the schools would have to supply desktops in all of the classrooms for that to happen.
The Networked Student by Wendy Drexler
I thought this was a good but simple way to explain about how to use and find personal learning networks. It made me realize how easy it is to find materials to use to do help you do well in the classes your taking.
I believe it is good to use the tools available on the internet but I do believe there is a need to spend time in the classroom. A student will need the teacher for direction, and to know what's right from wrong. If you have the wrong information then you will not have learned anything. Some students may have trouble finding access to these tools. Not everyone can afford a computer, or find access to one.
As a teacher, I think it will be very important to help my students find their own personal learning networks. If they have an idea of what's out there then it will make it easier for them to decide for themselves what they like or don't like. They can always to come to me if they have any question if a network is a good tool or not.
Toward a New Future of Whatever by Michael Wesch
I thought this video was a bit comical but it was good. I thought he was right on about how whatever has been used. I find myself saying that from time to time still today. When my brother and I are disagreeing about something, I will say it. He can't stand it either. After watching this video, I'm going to try to change my attitude and not use whatever in a negative way. I thought Mr. Weshch and his students did a great job in making his speech where anyone can relate to it and understand it as well. It makes you see how childish and selfish people can be.
As a teacher, I will have to show my students things in a way so they can relate to the information I'm trying to teach them. Hopefully they won't have or go in to the class with a negative attitude. Myabe they will go in open minded and willing to learn.
I agree with Dr. Miller when he was saying that we write with our laptops more than we do with our pens. In my classes that I'm taking, I have seen more and more laptops being used by students. It makes it much easier because you don't have to keep up with the notebook, or worry about your notes being ruined because you can save it on your computer.
Technology had made it easier for teachers to find new material and new tools to help students learn and keep them interested. If you look hard enough on the internet, you can find tons of useful material that you can use in your classroom. I have recently done some research into iTunes U and it is a great resource to use as a student and as a teacher. You can find almost anything on there that you would need. I think he's right when there is a need to share information, and iTunes U is a great place to do that.
I think Dr. Miller has a good idea about making a buildings at colleges and universities totally green, but I think it would be very expensive at the same time. I know some colleges could afford to do it, but not all of them. If it was done, I don't know if all students could afford to buy computers. i think the schools would have to supply desktops in all of the classrooms for that to happen.
The Networked Student by Wendy Drexler
I thought this was a good but simple way to explain about how to use and find personal learning networks. It made me realize how easy it is to find materials to use to do help you do well in the classes your taking.
I believe it is good to use the tools available on the internet but I do believe there is a need to spend time in the classroom. A student will need the teacher for direction, and to know what's right from wrong. If you have the wrong information then you will not have learned anything. Some students may have trouble finding access to these tools. Not everyone can afford a computer, or find access to one.
As a teacher, I think it will be very important to help my students find their own personal learning networks. If they have an idea of what's out there then it will make it easier for them to decide for themselves what they like or don't like. They can always to come to me if they have any question if a network is a good tool or not.
Toward a New Future of Whatever by Michael Wesch
I thought this video was a bit comical but it was good. I thought he was right on about how whatever has been used. I find myself saying that from time to time still today. When my brother and I are disagreeing about something, I will say it. He can't stand it either. After watching this video, I'm going to try to change my attitude and not use whatever in a negative way. I thought Mr. Weshch and his students did a great job in making his speech where anyone can relate to it and understand it as well. It makes you see how childish and selfish people can be.

Dr. Alice Christie's Web Site
The topic I chose to read about on Dr. Christie's Web Site was Google Earth. There are 3 types of Google Earth. They are Google Earth, Google Earth Pro, and Google Earth Plus. Google Earth is free but you have to pay for Google Earth Pro and Plus annually. Google Earth shows you the exact location of what your searching for. It even will show you buildings and traffic that is passing in the area. You can even find your house on there. You can also see where rivers and lakes are located on there.
As a Social Studies teacher, I think Google Earth would be an excellent tool to use in my classroom. It would give the students a better idea of what certain areas of the world looks like, and it is easy for the students to use at school or at home. I think it would help keep my students interested in what they are learning. Every student learns differently and this would give them another way to learn.

ITunes U has 13 different subjects to choose from. On the right hand side there is a list of the most downloaded podcast. Above the list of most downloaded podcast are quick links where you can find the names of the available universities on iTunes U. Once you click on the universities' link they will show the list of schools in alphabetical order, so you will be able to find the school you are looking for easily. Once you choose the school you want, there is a section for subjects, what's new, and highlights. They also have quick links and the most downloaded topics that are about the college.
If your not quite sure what the title of the subject your looking for you can do a power search. It's where you can put in key words and the name of the school you think it might be located under. You can also just go to a certain subject to find what you looking for. For example, if you like history, you would click on it then go to the topic that you're interested in. Once you do that it will show you the different titles of book and videos about that subject and how long they last. In order to download a podcast or video cast, you must be a member of iTunes. It's real easy to join. All you need is an email account and a password, and it doesn't cost anything either.

There are many benefits for using an iPod in a classroom. The iPods are convenient for both the faculty and students. You can use them just about anywhere and it will reduce help reduce the hours spent in labs and libraries by the students. It will increase the interest of the students.
Although there are many benefits to using an iPod in the classroom, there are also some problems that have occurred. The recordings made on an iPod aren't the best quality. The students and staff don't always fully understand how to use it. There are limited training resources available. There are difficulties in obtaining licenses for content needed. Wikipedia
I don't usually use Wikipedia when searching for things on the internet, and after reading these articles and listening to the podcast about Wikipedia, I'm glad I don't. It's crazy that anyone can just go in there and change the articles that are posted on there. There are some that are obvious that their fake, but there are many that it's hard to tell whether it's true or not.
I think Wikipedia should either make a better effort in making sure that the information put on there should be accurate. If there has been information that has been changed and they can figure out who done it then Wikipedia should hold the people accountable. If Wikipedia doesn't do something about it then it could eventually cause some problems for some innocent people.
"What I've Learned This Year"
Mr. McClung talked about what he experienced his during his first year as a teacher. He talked about how important it is to be flexible and be willing to listen to your students. He talks about how it shouldn't just be all about you that it's about your students as well. He says you should not set you goals too high for you students, and be willing to learn new technologies.
I thought this was an excellent post. I think everyone that is going to become a teacher feels the same way Mr. McClung did about the first year of teaching. I'm sure everyone will be apprehensive about not only their first year but their first day as a teacher. I know I will be excited, but very nervous at the same time. I think it's important to set goals as well, but be realistic and try not to set the bar too high for yourself or your students. I agree with him that you should be flexible, because each class will be different. As a teacher, you will have to see what works best for each class, so they will enjoy what they are being taught. If they do then they will want to interact more in class and be more willing to study and do well in the class.

Integrating ICT into the MFL classroom
I learned a lot from this podcast. As a teacher, I could use it as a tool in and out of the classrooms. It gives the students a different way to learn. It gives the parents an opportunity to see what their children is learning more easily.
This podcast tells you how easy it is to make a podcast. The use of podcast allows the students to learn not only at school but at home as well. Students can use the podcast in the classroom to use a learning tool. The students can use the podcast in class to help explain what their learning in class that day or week. It helps the teacher and students to be creative.

Media Literacy
I thought this video was amazing. These kids have learned so much at an early age. When I was that age I didn't know the difference between fictional and non-fictional books. These children are way smarter than I was at this age. I could barely turn a computer on much less know how to write on a blog at that age. It's incredible what kids today are learning at an early age. I can't imagine what my children will be learning and be doing at that age in school.
I Phone
This video was crazy! I can't believe a child that age could use something like the I Phone. You cant tell that he is going to be a very smart person as he gets older. I can't imagine what he will be able to do as he gets older. This video shows you how learning this type of technology at such an early age will help him as he progresses through school and life.
Podcasts
I thought most of these podcasts were very useful, but some could have been done differently. I thought that that most of the speakers were very enthusiastic about what they were talking about and were very knowledgeable as well. I liked how in some of them they used things like the use of "Batman" in one of the videos to help you relate to what their talking about.
KidsCast explained the advantages and disadvantages of video and audio podcasts. He explained how and why you would use each of these types of podcasts. I like how he didn't try to talk over your head. He explained things so anyone would be able to understand it.
The MacBreak Weekly wasn't that great. They really didn't explain what exactly the I Pad was and what was it used for. They were more concerned about the name than telling people what it's used for. If you don't know much about the IPod or ITouch then you would be lost and not know what their talking about.
This Week in Photography was different than the other podcasts. They were talking about Racism in Cameras. They didn't seem to take the topic very serious. I don't think they were trying to act that way but I think they could have went about it differently. I think most people would find this very offensive, but I could be looking at it wrong. I know their trying to explain how certain cameras work, but they could be more respectful.
When I make my Podcast I hope to combine what I've learned from these podcasts. Hopefully it will be done well where everyone that plays it will think it's interesting and enjoy it.

A Vision of Students Today
I thought this was a good video. I've experienced many of the things that were in the video. When I first started college, I attended Auburn University. The classrooms were huge and hardly any of the professors new my name unless it was in an upper level class, and that's because those classes have less students in them. At the University of South Alabama it had been very different. Most of the classes are small that I have taken and the teachers make a point to learn your name, and try to do what they can to help you.
If I were the producer of this video I would have added some commentary from the students. I would have also talked about how much students go out and party, and the use of alcohol and drugs while in school instead of staying at home studying for a test,or working on a project. I thought this video was extremely accurate.
"It's Not About the Technology"
I think Ms. Hines made some interesting points. I think the teacher does need to be willing to learn new technology to help their students in and out of the classrooms. Children are getting smarter and smarter everyday because of the advancement of technology. When I was in high school, the only computers available where in the library. Today, there is at least one computer in every classroom in the high school I attended.
I also believe she has a point if the teacher doesn't know how to use the new technology then some of your students may not completely understand what your trying to teach them and may not do as well. At the same time, if the teacher isn't sure how to operate something he or she most likely could ask one of their students how to do it. If you involve the students then both of you can learn something at the same time.
Is It Okay to Be A Technologically Illiterate Teacher?
I get what he's saying about technology but I don't think it's a requirement to use technology in the classroom. I think that you have to see how well your students learn from it because everyone learns differently. You may have to switch it up and go back to the old way at times so that every student can learn in their own way.
I also think before you start complaining about parents not learning how to use computers then you should ask them why don't they understand them first, or you should maybe offer a class for them so they could learn how to use then. Then the parents would be able to help their kids with their homework.

It seems to me that people are addicted to things on the internet like facebook and twitter, and with the advancement with cell phones access to the internet is made even easier. Severeal of my friends use their internet on their phones more than they use their computers.

Mr. Winkle Wakes
This movie made me realize how far the medical technology has come along. The equipment used today is much better than in the past, but the technology in our schools still need some improving, so children will enjoy attending school,want to learn, and make good grades.
I could see how Mr. Winkle would be lost after being asleep for so long and walk into a hospital and see how things were being done now instead of how it was in the past.I would be frightened as well.
Did You Know
Before watching this video I had no idea how dramatically technology has changed over the years. It's scary to think that a computer could be made that's so advance it has more of a brain capacity than a human being. The video also made me realize how too far thing have been taken. For example, the use of Myspace is like an addiction. There's more people that are members of Myspace than there are in population in some countries.
After seeing this video, I've come to realize that the United States is way behind in everything, and if this video is correct then China is setting the bar in the education system. The leaders in the U.S. need to do something about this very soon.
Sir Ken Robinson: The Importance of Creativity
I think he made some great points about the use of creativity in schools. Children need to be encouraged to think outside the box and use their creative skills. I think it will help them in the long run. Everyone learns differently and we need to find ways to help children learn the best wat possible.
I really enjoyed this video. He made his speech very interesting and entertaining throughout the speech.
Vicki Davis: Harness Your Students' Digital Smarts
I think it's awesome that this teacher challenges her students to want to learn more, and they don't back down from the challenge. The students figure out for themselves how to do certain things for that class. She makes them use their brains instead of waiting for her to give them the answer.
Maybe more teachers should use this style of teaching in their classrooms. I think it's very important for everyone to learn as many new things as they can, especially when it comes to new technology.
